    Transparency & Standards / Draft Standard 01

    Disclosure Standard

Private Film Testing for Film Companies

If the commissioning company chooses to publish private test findings on its own channels, the accompanying post or video must accurately disclose whether testing was paid, the film was supplied, or both.

    Trust. Standards. Protection.

Disclosure explains the relationship. It does not decide credibility.

Paid private film testing, supplied automotive film, and any additional material relationship are not automatically improper. Clear disclosure gives consumers the context to judge the information for themselves.

    Proposed disclosure principle

Clear, specific, and easy to notice

A disclosure should identify the actual relationship in plain language and appear with the relevant recommendation or claim. If more than one relationship applies, the draft standard calls for every relevant relationship to be described.

    01

    Exact paid and product-supplied labels

Use the literal labels PAID PRIVATE FILM TESTING or BRAND-SUPPLIED PRIVATE FILM TESTING when applicable.

    02

    Required in-video and caption placement

The final disclosure must appear in the video itself AND near the beginning of the caption/post, before a viewer must expand it.

    03

    Tags are not disclosure

A brand tag, platform partnership tool, vague “collab” wording, or hashtag by itself does not replace the plain-language disclosure.

    04

Brand factual review versus prohibited outcome control

The brand may check product identity and specifications, but may not require a positive opinion, remove a material limitation, hide compensation, strip disclosure, or edit the video to change its meaning.

    Draft label library

State the relationship in plain language

These draft labels are starting points, not automatic conclusions. A label should be used only when records support its wording, and additional relevant consideration should be described directly.

    Paid Private Film Testing

Used when compensation was received for testing or video production. The brand chose to publish the delivered material. Payment was not conditioned on a positive result.

Draft disclosure label“This is a paid private film test produced for [Brand]. [Brand] paid for testing and video production and chose to publish this material. ShieldID never publishes commissioned private tests. Payment was not conditioned on a positive result.”

    Brand-Supplied Private Film Testing

Used when the film company supplied the film at no cost for testing, but no payment was received for testing or production.

Draft disclosure label“[Brand] supplied the film used in this private test at no cost. No payment was received for testing or production. [Brand] chose to publish the delivered material. ShieldID never publishes commissioned private tests.”

Paid + Brand-Supplied Private Film Testing

Used when the film company supplied the film and paid for testing or video production.

Draft disclosure label“[Brand] supplied the film and paid for testing and video production. [Brand] chose to publish this delivered material. ShieldID never publishes commissioned private tests. Neither the supplied film nor payment was conditioned on a positive result.”

    Unpaid Brand-Requested Private Film Testing

Used when the film company requested the test, but ShieldID received no free film, payment, travel, affiliate compensation, or other material benefit for testing or production.

Draft disclosure label“[Brand] requested this private film test. ShieldID received no payment, free product, travel, affiliate compensation, or other material benefit for testing or production. [Brand] chose whether to publish the delivered video. ShieldID never publishes commissioned private tests.”

    Additional Relationships Still Require Disclosure

Affiliate/referral compensation, travel, services, or an ongoing partnership must be added to the primary testing disclosure label whenever applicable. These are secondary disclosures, not separate testing types.

    Consumer education

Questions to ask before relying on a recommendation

A visible label is only the beginning. These questions help consumers separate relationship context from the strength of the evidence.

    1. Q-01

Does ShieldID sell paid video reviews?

No. Payment covers private testing work, a full written findings report, and a private explanatory video. It never buys favorable language, reviews, or network access.

    2. Q-02

Who decides whether the video is posted?

The brand decides for its channels. ShieldID never publishes commissioned private tests.

    3. Q-03

What does paid private film testing mean?

The film company paid for private testing work, report documentation, and a private video, and the company chose to publish the delivered material.

    4. Q-04

      Does payment guarantee network access?

No. Testing payment buys private testing deliverables only and never guarantees directory listing, partnership, or network access.
